Somasundaram Chettiar was a man of exceptional foresight and business acumen. He was entrusted with the revival of the struggling Malabar Spinning and Weaving Company in 1899. His leadership and expertise turned the company around, laying the foundation for his future endeavors.
Recognizing the potential of Coimbatore, Somasundaram Chettiar established Kaleeswarar Mills in 1907. The mill flourished under his guidance, becoming a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit. His contributions extended beyond the realm of business. He was a philanthropist who actively supported education, healthcare, and religious institutions.

Building on a Strong Foundation: The Vision of P.S. Sathappa Chettiar
P.S. Sathappa Chettiar (1897-1950), adopted son of Somasundaram Chettiar, carried forward the family's legacy with remarkable success. He undertook a business tour to Europe, which inspired the creation of the textile brand, Kamadhenu.
Sathappa Chettiar expanded the family's textile footprint by managing factories across various locations. He also acquired the Mall Mill, renaming it 'Somasundaram Mills' in honor of his father. His dedication and strategic direction significantly increased the capacity of all the mills.
Sathappa Chettiar's leadership extended beyond the industry. He served as the Founder President of the Southern India Textile Manufacturers Association (SIMA) and actively participated in various community initiatives.
